Acceptable Advertising Or Going Too Far?

Adzookie paints houseIf you are like me, you have come to understand and accept that almost nothing is free from advertising. Just about every where we go, we are met with some sort of ad or product placement. We almost cannot escape it but at the same time we have accepted it and have created great un- listening stations for ourselves. We block so much out of what is around us that we only notice when it is suddenly not there as we know something looks different. It is ok, we all do it. How many in home and out of home ads can we be subjected to in one day? A lot as we know. However what about on the home? Yes, on your home. Ad no, not political signs in the yard. Advertising painted on your house. Sounds crazy, I know but Adzookie recently made what seems to be an offer some just could not refuse.

Adzookie – Turn Your House into a Billboard

Adzookie, a mobile advertising company, is running a promotion where they are asking to paint your house and they will pay your mortgage in exchange. The terms are pretty simple:

We’re looking for houses to paint. In fact, paint is an understatement. We’re looking for homes to turn into billboards. In exchange, we’ll pay your mortgage every month for as long as your house remains painted

Here are a few things we’re looking for. You must own your home. It cannot be rented or leased. We’ll paint the entire outside of the house, minus the roof, the windows and any awnings. Painting will take approximately 3 – 5 days. Your house must remain painted for at least three months and may be extended up to a year. If, for any reason, you decide to cancel after three months or if we cancel the agreement with you, we’ll repaint your house back to the original colors.

If you’re prepared for the bright colors and stares from neighbors just complete the submission form below. We review every submission. If your home meets our criteria, an Adzookie team member will contact you.

Is this going too far?

I have to admit, this is a bit of a stretch, even for me. Where does it stop? Are our neighborhoods going to start looking like they belong more at the Daytona 500? I like to come into my neighborhood and see the pretty  houses, well kept yards and have that tranquil feeling where no one is shouting at me. Sure, maybe this is a fantasy where everyone has a pretty home, the yard is well kept as, well, drive around any neighborhood in Vegas right now and there are more eyesores than well kept homes. But does this mean that we should paint them in ads? Of course, Adzookie is not going to paint the house on that is tucked inside on a small side street. They need that high traffic street, so that there is a lot of cars or people walking around to get the exposure. We get that.

Gimmick or Revenue Generating Promo?

In advertising we have to think about the return. Sure put an ad here but who is seeing it and will they be buyers? Buyers, it is about the buyers! Will entering a neighborhood bring the buyers? They need the advertisers and the publishers. Are there enough advertisers and publishers that will be seeing the painted house? Or is this a gimmick, stunt, etc to draw attention to their offering and also soften up the consumers so they welcome mobile ads? I do not know but if it did not have some sort of gimmick/stunt associated with it, why not just get some gigantic sandwich boards?

Is this going to far or the next step in advertising? Would you paint your house?
