Contests, for some they live for them, enter as many as they can for the thrill of the win. Similar to a gambler who gets a rush when the red light flashes above the slot machine as it locks up and you know you hit something big. We all love to win and as there is a certain inner euphoria when you hear or see your name atop of many. We also love to watch others win whether that be our favorite team, villian, or contestant on a reality show. We feel a connection to the people as if we know them and pull for our favorites. Well, now we have a new favorite that we need to pull for … as a community – a social media community.
For those of you who may not have heard, , Director of Community at Blue Sky Factory and his wife, Kristina, welcomed their first child, a daughter, a few weeks ago. Anyone who followed DJ on Twitter became a part of their lives throughout the pregnancy (sometimes making us forget that Kristina was actually carrying the baby) even being greeted with tweets from @BabyWaldow. What joy and happiness we felt of the first news that Eva was born and mother and baby were doing just fine and then to be treated to some first photos of baby Eva. Well now, we can make those pictures worth a thousand words … or votes. You see, DJ has entered his daughter into the 2010 Baby Idol contest sponsored by a local radio station in Salt Lake, Utah 97.1 ZHT and I am hoping that everyone reading this clicks the link and votes for #723 but also shares the post or even creates one of their own. Why? What does it matter to me and most that are reading this if she wins? Not much really except that you were part of and contributed to an experiment.
A Social Media Experiment
Social media marketing, we love it as we engage in it everyday. We have “met” people from all over the world, built relationships and received referrals and even signed contracts. But there are still those that are on the fence. Those that believe that social media is a bunch of people playing on the internet or that there is not real business happening, that people are tweeting about their favorite TV shows and how can that even remotely resemble doing business. Well, here, we have a chance, to be a part of a real case study that is completely based from readers voting and sharing, and their friends and readers voting and sharing. We all want to hear about real life cases so let’s create one.
So, you with me? Take a minute and go and vote for Baby Eva, #723, and share this with as many people as you can so that we can create our own case study by bringing people together through our own relationships and new ones that we can create.
So, please take a minute and vote and then tweet @DJWaldow to introduce yourself if you have not already been acquainted and let him know that you voted and of course share the article. Oh, and if you are attending the New Marketing Experience 2010 in San Francisco, introduce yourself to DJ, tell him I said “Dude” and let him know that you voted (warning he may have a library full of photos as this is his first trip away from his daughter).
Let’s rock this and show the power of social media.
You with me?
