Facebook kept a close eye on the numbers since the launches of the news feed comments and the like buttons in 2008 and 2009. The numbers do not lie and as we have seen even on blog, the Like button is a very popular feature. Since their inception, the comments and like buttons are the most used features on Facebook (what no Farmville or Facebook Gifts?). Originally compared to a restaurant review, the seem to go hand in hand to give users an opportunity to like a photo, status update and share all their information to anyone else who likes the update. While Facebook privacy has been under the microscope with every change, Facebook has attempted to tighten the privacy with the ability to opt out of instant personalization from the like and link feature, the latest upgrade will heighten the privacy confusion.
“Like” Facebook Comments
Facebook has began rolling out the latest feature where you can now like any comment left to any update, photo, video, etc. Located underneath comments, you simply click the like button to show your friends that you like and appreciate their comment. Once a comment is liked, a notification is sent to the person who commented.
According to Tom Whitnah over at the Facebook blog, they felt that the ability to like comments is “like peanut butter and jelly, … these two features would go better together.”
Here is a peek of the new Like button for comments if your profile has not been upgraded.
The like button seems to be taking on a life of its own. Blogs are reporting that the like button is their most popular as it relates to sharing, the debacle of the “fan” page, community pages, etc seems to be forgotten and we are embracing the like button as if it was here all along.
