Google Instant, “Search Before You Type,” is Here

google instant is here Google Instant, the much anticipated news of the day, has been launched. The search before you type is translated into receiving possible to exact matches in the search results that appear instantly as you type your query thus receiving results faster and more efficiently. Previously, you had to type your entire query and hit search before results were provided. According to Google, it is estimated that Google Instant is providing search results 2 to 5 seconds faster than before.

How does Google Instant Work?

Google Instant provides search results as you are typing your search query. If you are searching for information about  Google Instant, once you start typing “Google” predicted query results start to appear as do search results to your predicted query.

In the search above, the predicted did not match the intended search query until the “i” was typed and it appeared after “images.” This is not anticipated to last as many will be searching Google Instant over the next day or so which will be sure to push this up in the predictions.

Google Instant Features

1. Query Predictions. The query predictions are good and bad so far in my usage. I did find it to be a bit annoying when they were suggesting something that I was not looking for at all but then again for others it was fast and convenient.

2. Query Prediction Scroll. The ability to scroll through the predictions as you start your query and receive results is very useful as sometimes we are unsure as to really what we are trying to find out. The query predictions helps but seeing results instantly by scrolling down to the predicted helps a lot.

3. Instant Search Results. The instant search results are neat as if you are unsure of what really you are searching for you get to preview the results and change your query without having to type the query, hit search, review the results and repeat with a new query.

4. Opt-Out. Not a fan of Google Instant, no problem as Google has you covered with an opt-out in your so you can continue your searches in Classic Google.

Benefits of Google Instant

With any new Google launch, there are benefits to users that they roll out and Google Instant is no different. According to , the benefits of Google Instant are all associated with time management:

Faster Searches: By predicting your search and showing results before you finish typing, Google Instant can save 2-5 seconds per search.

Smarter Predictions: Even when you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, predictions help guide your search. The top prediction is shown in grey text directly in the search box, so you can stop typing as soon as you see what you need.

Instant Results: Start typing and results appear right before your eyes. Until now, you had to type a full search term, hit return, and hope for the right results. Now results appear instantly as you type, helping you see where you’re headed, every step of the way.

Google Instant is here and does take a bit of getting used to. It pretty much works the same as Classic Google as it relates to filters for profanity, search results as it relates to ranking (however I did note that some rankings did change with Google Instant) and the quality of the results that are being provided.

Google is continually changing the way that we search and so far Bing/Yahoo and also now Facebook Search seem to be no match. We will have to keep an eye on the rankings and also if this will have any effect on local search. I did a quick search (while signed in to my account) for “Pizza” and my query was finished with “hut” and then suggested was pizza las vegas, pizza hut coupons, pizza hut coupon codes, pizza”  I am sure that my local pizza palor Gallo’s Pizza Kitchen is not real happy right now but , they are definitely not complaining.
